Green Leaf Village - Eugene, Oregon

Creating community and encouraging autonomy were two of the guiding principles for the site planning and design of Green Leaf Village in Eugene, OR. The 34-unit site provides quality affordable housing for many families and individuals. Close collaboration between the architect and landscape architects helped to create a dynamic "neighborhood" configuration with many amenities encouraging vibrant social interaction and community building.

A grand allee of birches signals the central entrance to the village and a raised pedestrian walkway encourages traffic to slow or perhaps to stop at the Community Center. The Community Center sits along a primary access route leading to the green commons and connecting the two sides of the site. A custom-designed, sculptural play area invites imaginative play while a more traditional play area provides additional recreational opportunities. Residential character is created through lush plantings throughout the village. By keeping the parking to the perimeter of the site, pedestrian circulation and views are not disrupted.
